07:03 pm: Wrapping up the work fast so that you can run and catch the bus to be home on time. So, the question comes now."Switch off" your PC or put it in "sleep".

But who would close all the running applications one by one and then turn off the PC. Instead its very easy to just click a button and put your machine to 'sleep'. But have you ever wondered whether your m/c is 'sleeping' or pretending to do so.

So, in this scenario, you use your PC from 9-7 for your work which is just 10 hours, but still it runs for 24 hrs. Sometimes I happen to go to office on weekends and to my astonishment have seen around 50% of  the PCs 'sleeping'. Have you ever wondered how much power does it take to keep your PC's sleeping? I'm sure most of us would never had? Why? Because we don't have to pay the bill..right?

But how many of us keep the TV/computer running or in sleep mode at our home every morning when we come to office? No one..I'm sure. Because it creates a hole in our pocket..!!

Research and test have shown that if the PC is shut down when not in use instead of 'sleep', the difference in power bill is 10%.  This 10% is very crucial to our efforts to save energy. Just imagine, the power saved if all the PCs running in sleep mode are shut down. This will be a very small effort on our part in our attempt to save electricity.

I do it and also advise my team-mates to. Please take a vow this Earth Day that we will shut down the appliances when not required and not keep them on....
